After being diagnosed with a brain tumor in 2008, Indie Lee began making the connection between health and what she put on her skin. Born from this experience was the passion to create non-toxic, chic, solution-based products that are just as powerful as those containing chemicals.
Indie Lee's story is not a stand alone incident. The last time the U.S. FDA passed a new law to regulate skincare was in 1938. That's over 80 years of changes in the beauty and cosmetic industry that has gone unregulated besides for what companies must inform consumers about on brand packaging. The laws do not even require companies to inform users if someone became sick from using their product. England has taken strides in cleaning up the beauty industry by banning 1,328 ingredients that have links causing sickness or diseases while the U.S. banned only 11.
We have become so conscious of what we are putting in our bodies but rarely do we question what we are putting on our skin. Have you ever paused to consider how many products touch our skin every day? Most women's daily routine consist of at least 11 products. That's 11 products every day. Sometimes even twice a day. Between your shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste, mascara, cleanser, lipstick, soap, hair spray, body lotions, face lotions... the list just goes on and on.
Next time you start your morning routine look to see if any of these harmful ingredients are listed on the back:
1.4 Dioxane
Parabens
BHA & BHT
Siloxane
You can compare all of your beauty product ingredients to those found in Indie Lee's line any time in our store. Or you can stop by on Thursday, November 7th to hear Rebecca G (VP of Clean and Skincare for Indie Lee) speak at onsite at Avena.
