Dr. Alison Monette, ND, RD
Are you always fatigued, bloated, headachy, falling asleep after lunch, poorly digesting, itchy your eyes, sneezing or tossing and turning at night? Or do you have even more problematic symptoms? Do you feel less than optimal without a solution?
Let’s face it, living healthfully is hard. Eating conveniently, not exercising, staying up too late, that’s all much easier. Unfortunately, poor dietary intake, poor lifestyle, and lack of movement add up…creating the perfect fuel for chronic illness. I have a lot of patients of all ages coming to me feeling the effects of this pattern.
I remember my freshman year in college. Almost immediately, my health shifted. Stomach aches, fatigue, skin breakouts, having to run to the bathroom during a class or work…something was not right! Thankfully, I realized the one significant thing that changed was the large mocha latte I was drinking during my work shifts at Starbucks. Oh could it be? I hate to admit that I was sad to try an experiment of no lattes for a week to see if this would make a difference. Unable to deny it was the cause, I reluctantly gave up dairy. To my surprise, the months passed and spring came around and the chronic seasonal allergies I had been suffering from since childhood went away. No more Claritin, swollen and itchy eyes and no more sneezes!
That’s where my path toward naturopathy and functional medical began. I received a B.S. in dietetics from the University of Connecticut, immediately going on to earn my medical degree at Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine in Tempe, AZ, one of the five nationally accredited naturopathic medical schools in this country. I am a nationally board-certified, licensed naturopathic physician and a registered dietitian. I founded Avena Integrative Medical Center, LLC, located in Putnam, CT in 2007.
I am an expert in functional medicine, using a thorough intake process to discover the underlying causes of disease, detailed lab testing and homework which allows me to put together a personalized treatment plan composed of a combination of diet, supplements, botanicals, and lifestyle change to address them. I specialize in prevention and wellness treatments using a whole-systems medical approach that addresses the root causes of chronic illness.
My goal is to empower you to stop managing symptoms and start treating the underlying causes of illness in order to improve your health. My work is deeply informed by my 10+ years of experience working with complicated cases, often the last resort in many patients who have gone without answers.

Noah Pushor, National Board Certified Health and Wellness Coach + NeuFit Practitioner
Optimizing my health and function is a constant, unending journey. Through high school and college, I had an intrinsic understanding that my nutrition, habits and lifestyle were not promoting long-term health. Searching for answers, I turned to what I considered foundational to health—science!
From there a passion was born for a deeper understanding of the body and the environment around us. At the same time, I pursued a CrossFit L1 Certification as coaching seemed like a natural way to achieve that goal and make an impact on a community I loved being a part of.
Still, something seemed off about the typical approach to health—solutions were surface level and root causes were never addressed. The individual as a holistic picture was never taken into account and the idea of function was drowned out by the pursuit of performance.
Knowing that I wanted to help change the conversation, I began studying and diving deeper into nutrition as a way to support a functional lifestyle. Working with Dr. Monette, I dove into the science behind functional nutrition and began helping educate others on how to build an optimal lifestyle through Fieldlab.
My passion for optimizing functional movement and living a functional lifestyle lead me to pursue a NeuFit Certification and to become a Certified Health Coach. Moving well (and without pain!) is just as important when working towards optimal health.
The journey towards optimizing my functional health and guiding others towards theirs will never end. And that’s okay—if not welcomed. It’s the process and the connections gained along the way that make it deeply rewarding and ultimately worthwhile. Whether a person's journey requires lifestyle guidance and support or the need to decrease pain and increase mobility through NeuFit, I am excited to be a part of that journey and help move the needle one step closer to optimal health!
