We want to make sure you have all the information before your first Red Light Therapy session. Below are some of the most frequently asked questions and the answers.
How long does a session last?
A session is 20 minutes long. Because Red Light Therapy utilizes both visible red and infrared wavelengths, you will feel a warm heat (that's the infrared!) during the session. For individuals not used to the heat, a 20 minute duration might become uncomfortable. If you need build up to 20 minutes, that is perfectly fine. Your body is still receiving beneficial effects.
What should I wear?
We recommend wearing as little as you can tolerate. While the light can penetrate through clothing, the more direct contact it has with skin the better.
Is there anything I should do beforehand? After?
You do not need to do anything beforehand or after your session. Just relax and let some photobiomodulation happen!
Is there anyone who shouldn't do Red Light Therapy?
Red Light Therapy has been studied in over 500 human trials and 4,000 lab studies. Red light is safe for everyone, even children.
Can I get a sunburn?
No. While your skin might feel warm to the touch or flushed after a session, red light and infrared cannot burn the skin.
Can I get a tan?
No. Red light and infrared frequencies do not produce a suntan.
I have a S.A.D light or red light at home. Does this Red Light Therapy machine do the same thing?
No. While lights for Seasonal Affective Disorder can help improve mood, they do not have the right frequency or strength to offer any cellular level benefits. And while we love and highly recommend a red light device for your home because they are the right wavelength, they are not as strong as a therapeutic red light device.
What should I expect to feel after a session?
Energized, decreased pain/inflammation, clearer thinking and better sleep just to name a few!
How often should I do Red Light Therapy?
This depends on what you are looking to achieve. For people with acute conditions (post surgery healing, athletic recovery, etc) you might only need a few sessions. Conditions like chronic inflammation, fatigue, and hair loss require more sessions. You could come for sessions as often as every day but we often recommend starting with 1 or 2 sessions a week to see how your body responds.
